Labor Day Weekend Is Here...Or Is It????

Happy Labor Day Weekend!! This year you'll find Cardo and I hoping that this weekend will come bearing it's most literal meaning as possible: We are READY!

Somehow, my body always seems to detect when the week begins and thus sets the standard for the remainder of the week to come. On Monday afternoon while I was in a meeting, I began to have some pains that have so far been the worst I've ever felt. If felt like a cross between maybe menstrual cramps (I think...I am one of those lucky gals that doesn't get them usually) and maybe bad gas? Sorry for too much info, but for the sake of illustrative reading, I must divulge! Anywhoo, they lasted throughout the afternoon and finally seemed to die down during the evening. When I got home I checked out my profile in the mirror and realized that Baby "dropped", as my tummy appeared much lower. Then, around midnight after I had been asleep for a couple of hours, those stinkin' things came back with a vengeance! They definitely felt like contractions, as there was a distinct "squeezing" feeling, but only on my left side. It lasted for quite a few hours and let me assure you I was THIS CLOSE to calling the nurse hotline. I was unable to lay on my side (which you're supposed to) and so my only option was to try and fall asleep propped up. I snoozed a bit that way, but ended up waking up with a stiff neck AND a sore uterus to boot. Tuesday during the day was fine, but that night around midnight again the pains started again something awful. Another sleepless night proceeded. And so my week has continued as such, where I almost can't wait for my alarm to ring in the morning just so I don't have to feel guilty for NOT sleeping while I still have the free will. (Or do I?!?) In summary, week 39 has been pretty darn miserable. Let's hope that next week follows the suit of all of the others and sets the standard starting on Monday. And what better day to have a baby than on Labor Day?!?

To make matters even more frustrating, I am dilated to a not-so-progressed "1 plus" as I was told during Wednesday's appointment. Of course, anything goes from here on out, and I could dilate to a 10 in one day. I realize this is very unlikely, but hey, why not entertain the possibility?!? My next appointment is on Wednesday, September 3rd, which is one day past my due date. Doctor West said that we would make induction plans at that appointment, so if you haven't heard anything about Baby Torres making her debut during the long weekend, then we will have a definite birth date for her by Wednesday! The standard is to wait 7 to 10 days after her due date, so that would put us at around September 9th through September 12th. A full two more weeks of discomfort!

Another cool update for the week: Baby Torres now has a name!!! I gave full authority to Ricardo pending executive approval from Yours Truly. He submitted his "first draft" to me on Wednesday while we were waiting for Doctor West to come in and I put my stamp of approval on it immediately. I am very happy with his choice and let's just hope Baby T fits it! Of course, we've been so long without a name and we are so close to her arrival that we've decided to keep it a surprise from everyone including our closest family and friends. You shall soon find out!

Today in preparation for the long weekend, I got my office and affairs into a position where I felt completely comfortable not coming back for 6 weeks if it comes to that. We'll see how I feel on Tuesday. I'll either feel more miserable than I do now and will work from home, I will feel okay and I'll head back in, or else I'll be a new mom and won't be working at all! Only time will tell.

Here is the 39 week snapshot!

Also big news since my last post: A huge congrats to the Andings who gave birth to an adorable Gavin Allen on Thursday, August 21st! Gavin is doing great but please do send some extra prayers their way as he was born a tad early and is getting a little extra help from the great folks at Fairview Ridges. Precious Gavin will be home in mom and dad's arms before we know it!

Enjoy your long weekends!!! Who can say what my next post will bring?!?

Hugs,

D
